How To Find The Best Wedding Venue in Texas

Finding the best wedding venue is a tall task. They have to be beautiful, accommodating, conveniently located, and have all the right amenities. And finding the best wedding venue in Texas has a few extra wrinkles thrown in as well.

Not every venue you tour while wedding planning will check all your boxes, but lucky for you, we’re here to help.

Finding the perfect wedding venue is all about knowing what to look for. That’s why we’ve put together a list of everything brides and grooms need to know about wedding venues so when you’re booking your tours, you know immediately which venues you can cross off the list and which ones are worth your time. While the needs of every couple are different, the best wedding venues will all have a few key things in common.

Let's Plan Your Dream Wedding

1. The Best Wedding Venue Options All Have Great Communication

If you find that communication or attention is lacking from the venues you’re considering, that is a BIG red flag!

If the venue coordinator or manager isn’t answering your questions in a timely manner—within three business days—or if you’ve asked a question that they can’t answer, consider another option. If you send in an information request and never hear back from them, don’t spend too much time waiting around (as long as you’ve checked your spam folder!).

There are so many things to consider when planning a wedding, and your wedding venue should be able to answer your questions in a timely manner. Just remember, if the communication is lacking in the beginning, imagine what it will be like as your big day comes closer.

2. The Best Texas Wedding Venue Always Has a Backup Plan

If your wedding venue only offers one ceremony location, you might want to reconsider, especially if that option is for an outdoor ceremony

Wedding ceremonies and receptions need to have a backup plan in case of inclement weather.

Even if a weather app shows crisp and clear skies, the weather is still unpredictable. Make sure your venue has a Plan B that you like as much as Plan A and know who will delegate and execute the backup plan if needed! You also want to check on what a last-minute change to Plan B would cost you.

At Kendall Point our custom-built gazebo overlooking the water in the backdrop of Texas hill country is a picturesque outdoor ceremony location, while our grand staircase in the ballroom is equally elegant and stunning. Our indoor ceremony location is the perfect Plan B in case of rain or if you’re planning a summer wedding and the lone star state heat is too much for you.

We also don’t charge any additional fees for moving outdoor weddings inside. We only need a few minutes before go-time to adjust the ceremony space for you, and if there is more than a 60% chance of rain on wedding day, our team will be ready both inside and out, so you have nothing to worry about.

3. The Best Wedding Venues Give You Plenty of Time on the Big Day

The length of time you’re given is crucial when it comes to choosing your wedding venue. The longer you have, the easier time you’ll have on the big day.

When you’re having your ceremony and reception at the same venue, you don’t want the party to feel rushed, and when you’ve got a full-day rental—like you do at Kendall Point—you don’t have to drive from place to place for the bridal party to have their makeup done or worry about getting to the venue on time to take photos.

While not all weddings will go all night, you can party all the way until the clock strikes midnight on your wedding day! We allot 14 hours for every couple, and we only allow one wedding per day, so there’s no competition for time, photos, or other couples! This allows you the maximum time to relax and enjoy your day instead of worrying about a time crunch.

After all, can you even call yourself the best wedding venue in Texas if you’re closed by 10?

4. The Best Wedding Venues Have Fewer Restrictions

Before choosing a wedding venue, you’ll need to know what your dream décor and set up is. Some venues have very strict guidelines as to what is allowed and what isn’t. If you have a specific theme in mind, this can throw a wrench in the works.

If you want to decorate your reception with the rustic charm of dozens of candles, be sure your venue will allow that. Some venues have limitations on the noise level, what flowers you can bring in, age restrictions for guests, and more.

While we don’t allow glitter or confetti (that stuff gets stuck everywhere!) there’s not much else we limit at Kendall Point. We are a blank canvas ready to be transformed into your dream wedding venue. And a big plus, we allow guests to bring their own alcohol. That’s a big game changer when it comes to your wedding budget.

5. The Best Wedding Venues Don’t Charge Extra for the Small Things

Hidden fees can wreak havoc on a wedding budget. Before or during your venue tour, it’s crucial that you ask what all is included in your venue rental agreement, and what additional fees you could incur. From corkage and cake cutting fees, service charges and tax, all the way down to A/C and guest parking, don’t be afraid to ask about every little thing.

Remember, the best wedding venues will always be able to answer your questions in a timely manner, but if you still don’t get the answer you like, it’s time to look elsewhere.

6. Cleanup Is Included at the Best Wedding Venues

This is a big one when it comes to wedding planning. If cleanup isn’t included in your venue rental, then you may be faced with one heck of a job after your reception. Imagine your friends and family lingering around for hours breaking down tables and chairs and sweeping and mopping. Or imagine the extra budget spent on a cleaning crew or paying the venue overtime.

Kendall Point takes care of all of that for you. You have no responsibility for cleaning after your wedding day at all. With us, you can scratch that off of your list.

Remember, if a venue requires you to clean up afterwards, you’ll need to make time for that and it will go against your allotted hours.

7. The Best Wedding Venues Also Have the Best Groom and Bridal Suites

One aspect to consider is whether there are dressing rooms that you can use all day. You’ll want to tour the areas to make sure there is enough space for you and your bridal party and that it’s easily accessible.

Why do we suggest all-day usage? Because sometimes a bride or groom needs a touch up or just a few moments of quiet. There are other occasions where a bride may change out of her ceremony gown into a second reception dress.

If your desired venue limits the usage of these rooms, you may want to consider another.

8. The Best Wedding Venues Work With the Best Wedding Vendors

Wedding venues that require the use of their in-house vendors may make your decision making a bit easier, but if they don’t fit your wedding plans, then this isn’t the venue for you. A restricted list can also increase the cost of your wedding by thousands of dollars.

Instead, the best wedding venues should have a list of choices that are friendly for any wedding budget.

While a recommended vendors list might seem off-putting, it’s actually very helpful in wedding planning. These aren’t just any vendors after all. They’ve been tried and tested by the venue time and time again, and that’s a five-star review that’s very hard to come by. When you find a wedding venue that gives you a list of suggested vendors—caterers, wedding planners, entertainment, and more—it means this venue wants you to have the absolutely best wedding day possible.

That’s why we have a list of recommended vendors here at Kendall Point. Because after over 1,000 weddings we know the industry. We know which vendors are trustworthy and reliable and which ones are not. We even know what order you should book your vendors in!
