August is typically our hottest month here in Texas Hill Country, but that doesn’t mean it’s not the perfect wedding month!
When you have the right venue after all, every month is the best month to get married. Besides, there are plenty of things to love about a late summer wedding in August!
Here at Kendall Point, we play host to beautiful weddings all year long, so we’ve gathered some of our best tips for hosting an amazing August wedding. So from August wedding colors to when to start the ceremony, read on for our tips on how to have the best August wedding.
We know August isn’t the most common month for a wedding, but that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with it. With the right venue and right vendor team, your August wedding can be a dream come true.
Don’t let the summer heat scare you. August is a great time to have a wedding!
For starters, summer days are longer, which means you get plenty of daylight hours. Here in Boerne, sunset takes place between 8:00-8:30 pm in August, which means you have plenty of wiggle room in the schedule if you want an outdoor ceremony. Besides, it’s cooler once the sun begins setting, so your heat problem starts to shrink.
Another bonus? August is one of the slower months for wedding season, so venue and vendor prices may be cheaper. When you’re researching potential venues or scheduling tours, be sure to ask about any discounts available for off-season months.
Another plus about August weddings? There usually isn’t much competition on the calendar. Your guests’ schedules aren’t as cluttered with school, summer vacation, and there are no major holidays occurring in the month of August.
And in our mind, a wedding is the perfect occasion to kick off the end of summer!
Picking your wedding venue should be the first step in your wedding planning journey. Many venues book up months or even years in advance, so you will want some flexibility when it comes to setting your own date.
And if you’re looking at an August wedding date, you’ll likely want to limit your search to indoor wedding venues.
Believe it or not, some San Antonio wedding venues only offer outdoor spaces for the ceremony and reception. Sure, it may work if the weather is perfect, but when temps reach the mid-90’s, you’ll wish you’d found a place with air conditioning!
At Kendall Point, we proudly offer both indoor and outdoor locations for your August wedding. Outdoor ceremonies take place either under our gazebo overlooking a natural spring-fed pond with views of the sweeping Texas Hill Country, or smaller wedding ceremonies also have the option to say “I do” on our veranda. Plus, one of our amenities is that you have full, exclusive access to our venue on your wedding day. So if we need to move the ceremony inside at the last minute because of weather, it’s no problem at all!
However, if you’d like to escape the heat entirely, we also host indoor ceremonies in our grand ballroom on our beautiful staircase. You have to see it to believe it!
Hand-held fans make for a great wedding favor and they’re also a quiet way for your guests to stay cool while outside. You can also opt to keep your ceremony short and sweet to minimize the time outside as well (15-20 minutes will go by in a flash!).
And don’t forget to choose drinks and food that compliment the season and will make your guests more comfortable.
Lastly, choose a later start time for your ceremony, whether it’s inside or out, to avoid the hottest temperatures in the afternoon.
Once you’ve booked your wedding venue, narrowing down your many (many!) décor options may sound like a daunting task.
If you have a particular wedding theme in mind, this might be an easy decision. But if not, take some inspiration from some of Kendall Point’s past couples. Any of these color palettes is the ideal choice for an August wedding.
A minimal color palette of white and blush pink is the perfect neutral background for lush greenery and pops of gold. The overall effect is soft and romantic, rather than stark and cold.
Plus, draping the vaulted ceilings as this couple did draws the eye upward so your guests can fully appreciate the venue!
Bright pops of coral, tangerine, and pink add a touch of whimsy that reflects the joy you’re feeling on your big day.
We built Kendall Point to have a completely neutral color scheme, so it’s ready for any palette you choose!
Pampas grass has seen a huge popularity boost in wedding florals over the past year! And if you’re a fan of this natural, boho look, you’re in luck because August marks the beginning of the season for this popular grass.
Pair it with deep reds, soft pinks, and dusty gray green for a timeless look that works just as well at a summer wedding as a fall one.
Keep things cool (literally!) by swapping out three-piece suits in favor of more casual attire.
Choose bridesmaid dresses made from lightweight, breathable fabrics with shorter hemlines. For men, opt for vests and suspenders instead of jackets (trust us, it looks super chic).
List the dress code as “casual” on the invitation so that guests aren’t sweltering in full-length ball gowns and tuxedos.
After hosting dozens of August weddings, Kendall Point has a lot of experience in helping you and your guests cool off.
By far, cold drinks and treats are what your guests will be craving the most!
A signature drink with a summery twist (such as cool cucumber or watermelon) will be the favorite of all your guests. Add an ice cream or popsicle bar after dinner for a fun treat!
And be sure to find a venue that lets you turn down the AC so there’s no chance of overheating on the dance floor.
Spring and fall might be the most popular times of the year for a Texas wedding, but an August wedding can be just as beautiful!
Kendall Point’s stunning indoor location is not only fully air-conditioned, but it also offers 360° views of the Texas countryside, so you and your guests will still feel totally immersed in the Hill Country.
